More beach available in Galveston

In November of last year, Galveston completed the 2nd of 3 beach renovation projects. New beaches were created between 61st and 75th streets in front of the seawall – that previously was without a beach and only contained large slabs of pink granite.  These new beaches are much larger (estimated at 300 feet wide) and nicer than anyone expected. The sand used for the beach was dredged from the Houston ship channel and produced approximately 725,000 cubic yards of beach quality sand. Continue reading “More beach available in Galveston”

Expanding the Beach in Galveston

Galveston has dredged sand from the Galveston Ship Channel to create 20 blocks of additional beach along the island’s seawall, starting at 61st and continuing through 81st street. The Army Corps of Engineers routinely dredge the ship channel but instead of displacing the sand offshore they will be creating new beaches for the public to enjoy.
